Bear Scat Newsletter

Guidelines

Note*  Largest % of subscribers are new to computing.  This is geared toward simple explanation for their benefit.

To get rolling with Bear Scat interactive newsletter, and become a member of Bear Tracks Web Site, first email beartracks@cniemail.com

Bear Tracks and its trimmings was provided voluntarily for three years.  When it mushroomed into an overwhelming task, small monthly dues were set forth beginning Aug 1, 2004.  $5 monthly per address (not per person) is requested.

Send check, cash or m.o. to:

                                  Bear Tracks

                                  P.O. Box 7373

                                  Glen Rose Tx.  76043

Be sure to include your email address & maiden name!  This is the only method for accounting.  Make it to either Bear Tracks, or MaryKay Pennington.

Slip a five into an envelope monthly, or send several months at one time......whatever is convenient for you will be perfectly fine. (monthly works for me)  It will be accurately recorded on your registered address.  No 'statement' will be emailed.   Remember the old 'honor racks' newspapers use to have?  You'd put a nickel in and take your paper.....no locked covers on them?  This is something like that only with a receipt emailed to you upon dues received.

                  Be sure to include your email address & maiden name!

PayPal online is also available.  memories@cniemail.com is the PayPal address.... email me for assistance if you'd prefer.

 No need to wait for dues to be accepted before getting registered.  Upon receiving your email request to join, I will immediately register your address with our automated mail sending system.  Automation is necessary due to the large volume of subscribers.  I receive your input at address above, compose the editions, send it to this auto-system that in turn, sends out over 200 editions at the same time.  Automation is used only for sending purpose.

Everything else is personal from me to you .....to bearland and vice versa.

We use maiden names and class year for identification.  Many search annuals to refresh their memories.. Small a group as we were in the 60's, a decade of ten years is a pretty good span so we can't remember every person.  No one cares if you graduated or not.  In those years boys dropped out to go to war, girls dropped out to get married..  Those fortunate enough to remain for graduation day were lucky indeed.  Use the class year when you would have graduated.  If you don't know the class year of whom you are addressing, that's ok!    Following these guidelines helps me put this out faster, but if you are a novice 'puter user, I will always aid and assist your input.
With BT bursting at the seams,  your cooperation with doing all you can from your end is greatly appreciated!

By following these guidelines you will save the editor unlimited time:

1.   Address your memories, inquiries, photos, etc., to:  beartracks@cniemail.com
      BT/BS originates from my home computer in Glen Rose Tx.

2.  In the Subject line, put 'INPUT'.  If not intended for newsletter, but                        for BT editor, type 'PERSONAL' in the subject line.

3.   INPUT FORMAT:  Open a new mail page (never Reply to an edition just read)

      In the new mail message body,  address your messages as follows:

      From:  first &  last (maiden) name '66
      To:      whoever '64

                   ~~~~  ~~~~~ ~~~~~~ ~~~~~~ ~~~~~
      To:    whatsizname '61
                   ~~~~~~     ~~~    ~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~ ~~~~
      To:  You too '63

                    ~~~~~     ~~~~~ ~~~~ ~~
Address as many old pals as you want in one email, sign your name or not at the end of your input.  You identified yourself at the top.
                           That's all there is to sending input !
                        **************************************
 To email the editor about anything, always include in the body of your email page:
                       maiden name, email address and class year
Most email 'return addresses' state a name, not e-address.
If your return address is a married name you have just lost me.
If in the message, you sign off with just a first name you have lost me.
You may include your married name, but without the maiden you have lost me.
                                             Don't Lose Me!
Helpful Hints:
I am happy to help with typos & spelling.  If you will do all you can from your end, it makes my task lighter.  To prepare your input ready (as possible) for copy:
Send it on plain (no background) mail page,  not copied from Word Pad or Works.  Backgrounds/Stationery sometimes cause input to set default for anything added under it.  It causes a complete re-do of the entire composition.
Have your email margins (called text wrap) set at 76 wrap.
     To do this:
In Outlook Express mail program, click on TOOLS, then OPTIONS, then on the SEND tab.
 Halfway down page you see under Sending Mail, a bar saying 'Plain Text settings'.  Click it open and make your adjustment.
This creates your text to go across width of email page.
You can check your mail wrap simply by noticing in a BS edition whether your input goes across width of page.
            For those who know how to send ready copy.....please do
         However, never hold back input due to thinking it is unacceptable....
                                 ........it is all acceptable!
          I am always happy to edit necessary things if you don't know how.
Never think that 'no one is interested' in what you have to say. You never know what your memories will do for someone else. There are a lot of you out there I have thought about through the years and wondered how you were doing and what was going on in your lives. Everyone has wondered about someone else from the old days, so join in!
This is an interactive forum.  Without your memories/input, it dies on the vine.
Bear Scat editions go out as often as input from you comes in...usually 3-4 times weekly.
Editions include (when applicable) categories such as:
Bear Facts:
                       memos from the editor
Bear Power Synergy Prayer:
 Here we keep each other informed of anyone needing to be mentioned in our
             10 pm Bear 'Power Surge'
 When many minds join to pray, miracles happen!! We have created a new habit that may be the most rewarding one of our lives. When we have a downed bear, at 10 p.m. nightly we stop whatever we are doing to jointly send energy/prayer to the person. This takes only a minute...we count on YOU to join in.
Think white light.... sizzling, sparkling energy going through the bodies of our sick bears.  It is healing, it is powerful.
        Stay tuned to Bear Scat for current bears needing support and hugs!
Bear Dedications:
Send sentimental memories to old pals through song dedications.....
About Free Mail Servers:
Many use free mail servers outside of what their ISP connection provides for various reasons.  Free email accounts provide a certain service, but unless you purchase more 'mailbox space' from them, most are not suitable for what is considered 'long mail' such as Bear Scat.  Especially when an edition is full of photos or occasional Oldie.
Thus, your mailbox gets 'full' and your BS edition is returned to sender.  They also limit size of mail, so even when storage is empty you cannot receive a song or long piece (photos) of mail.  After Bear Scat automated delivery receives several 'returns to sender' from an address, it aborts that address.  I, as editor have no control over this feature.  I receive notice only after you are bounced from the list, just as you receive it.
 To avoid time consuming rejects, I encourage use of the email program provided by your IPS.  If Hotmail, Juno, Yahoo, etc is all you have available, let me know.  We will work together to ensure you receive each edition of this awesome ongoing reunion.
About Forwards:
We all receive 'Fwds' in our emails.  Humorous, sad, frightening, warnings, lost children, all sent to us from friends who send them to everyone in their address book.  Upon receiving Fwds (other than jokes), you might want to check out their validity on :
                                    http://www.snopes.com/index.htm
before passing them on to anyone else.  Most are determined to be only rumors.
Please do not add beartracks@cniemail.com to your address group for such Fwds.  ANY forwards! Readers have expressed opinion that since we get them in personal mail anyway, they prefer to not repeat one in a BS edition.  Trust me, if you received the Fwd, most likely everyone else has, or will get the same one sooner or later.
However.....please feel free to contribute anything relating to Oldies, 50's & 60's, etc.  I solicit all the clip art you can send.  (tiny pictures & animation of grizzlies, sock hops, anything representing our youth)  When you run across one, please copy and paste it to a mail page and send it in.  Or, send its website location to me. Sooner or later it will show up in an edition of BS.
            This assistance to BT is greatly appreciated!
